Anxiolitic Dentistry

Serving Fort Lauderdale, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, and Boca Raton, Florida

If the idea of visiting a dentist makes you anxious or nervous, please know that we understand that, and that you have a lot of company. There can be many reasons for that anxiety, all quite valid. Perhaps you have had a bad experience in the past that colored your expectations of all dentistry practices.

Other possible reasons might be:

  • A strong gag reflex – if Dr. Sarris is aware of that, he can avoid triggering it
  • Extra-sensitive teeth – we can give you extra anesthetic
  • Misaligned jaw joints that make it painful to hold your mouth open – there are different-sized devices to hold your mouth open and relieve your jaw muscles from that strain
  • A relatively small mouth that makes dental implements feel too big and invasive – Dr. Sarris will notice your mouth size and will adjust his movements accordingly

Dr. Sarris and his team will take every step possible to allay your anxiety and give you a feeling of comfort and being at home here. Our goal is to provide anxiety-free dentistry in pleasant surroundings so that you will feel easy about coming for your regular check-ups and professional cleaning. That way, your dental health will be optimized and maintained.

What is anxiety free dentistry?
Before any dental work is begun, we can give you oral sedation – a tablet or capsule – that will relax you and give you a calm and confident feeling. Dr. Sarris belongs to the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) and is highly trained in the best ways to practice sedation dentistry.

You will remain conscious of your surroundings and able to comply with any requests from Dr. Sarris or his dental assistant, but you will be free of anxiety. Because the sedative will help you remain still and relaxed, Dr. Sarris will be able to work more quickly and perhaps do several procedures in one visit. That can reduce your overall time in the dental chair. You would need to have a ride home, as the sedative would not wear off immediately.

We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) if you would prefer that. It is administered through a comfortable mask while Dr. Sarris works and it gives you a light feeling of being at ease. When you remove the mask, the effects wear off quickly so you would not need a ride home.

Anxiety-free dentistry is not hard to achieve once you have been here, met Dr. Sarris and his friendly team, and become familiar with our pleasant facilities. We use the best-quality dental technology, all designed to safely and quickly complete your dentistry procedures with virtually no discomfort.
