Common Cosmetic Dental Problems

Cosmetic Dentistry Patient in Fort Lauderdale

Cosmetic dentistry can solve most dental problems, probably even some you have never thought of before. The following information is to help you find the right procedure for your cosmetic dentistry concern.

Misaligned or Crowded Teeth
Fort Lauderdale Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Sarris will give you a full dental exam with digital X-rays to determine the severity of any misalignment or crowding in your teeth. In some cases, it is severe enough to need a full orthodontics treatment with traditional braces. If it is not so severe, Invisalign is an excellent solution for adults, as it avoids wires and brackets, using clear customized aligners instead.

If the dental problems are mild enough, porcelain veneers can be used to deal with multiple defects in one procedure. They consist of thin covers for the front tooth surfaces and can be shaped so as to correct several of the dental problems discussed on this page.

Gaps Between Teeth
Gaps between your teeth may be caused by too-small teeth, which can be corrected with porcelain veneers. Alternatively, tooth bonding could be done, where Dr. John Sarris applies layers of tooth-colored composite directly to your teeth to fill the gaps.

Discolored Teeth
If your teeth are discolored or stained by food and drinks such as coffee or tea, tooth whitening will usually return your teeth to their original bright white. However, if the staining looks grayish, it may have been caused by medications or by chemicals you have ingested. This type of deep staining can be corrected by tooth bonding applied to cover the tooth surface, or by porcelain veneers.

Missing Teeth
Many adults lose a tooth in their lifetime. A dental implant can be placed in the jawbone to anchor a replacement tooth or more than one. Four implants can anchor a whole upper or lower arch of teeth and eight can anchor a mouthful of teeth. If you prefer, Dr. Sarris can give you a dental bridge, which performs just like your natural teeth, and can look virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding teeth.

Broken or Chipped Teeth
Many of us have chipped or broken a tooth and been concerned that it would have to be removed and replaced. However, many chips and breaks can be repaired with porcelain inlays and onlays, tooth bonding, or dental crowns. Small chips on front teeth can be corrected with porcelain veneers.

Gummy Smile
Some of our new patients are concerned about having a “gummy smile” that seems out of balance because too much gum tissue is visible. Dr. Sarris can use a soft tissue laser for gum recontouring – removing excess gum tissue to reveal more tooth enamel and rebalance your smile. This is quick and with a little surface anesthetic, painless.
