Dental Veneers / Porcelain Veneers Questions
Serving Fort Lauderdale, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, and Boca Raton, Florida
What are dental veneers? Dental veneers, also called porcelain veneers, are very thin pieces of porcelain, about 1/8 inch thick or less, that cosmetic dentists use to cover the front surfaces of teeth visible in your smile. They can be done as a single treatment or as part of a smile makeover.
What can dental veneers repair?
Dental veneers can improve the shape, color, angle, and size of front teeth. Molars and premolars – your back teeth – would need dental crowns, because dental veneers only cover the front tooth surfaces and back teeth need good chewing surfaces.
By creating new front surfaces, dental veneers can hide stains and little gaps, add a bit of length or width to a tooth, and generally give the front teeth an even, straight look.
Are all dental veneers the same? No. Each brand of veneers has its advantages and disadvantages and Fort Lauderdale Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Sarris uses the brand that he considers to be most beneficial for most people. You may have heard of Lumineers – they are extra-thin veneers and Dr. Sarris does not offer them, as he regards them as too thin for longevity.
The way porcelain veneers are applied, what grade of porcelain they are made of, and the detail that goes into the design of each dental veneer will affect the overall outcome of your smile.
The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI) has produced some of the cosmetic dentists who are best known for creating completely natural-looking smiles from dental veneers. Dr. John Sarris has studied restorative and cosmetic dentistry through LVI, enabling him to use dental veneers to create a new smile for you that is both beautiful and completely natural looking.
How much do dental veneers cost?
Like most cosmetic dentistry procedures, the cost of dental veneers can vary greatly. How much dental veneers cost depends on: Economics of the region
Quality of care Extra amenities offered
Brand of dental veneer Number of teeth receiving dental veneers
Like many cosmetic dentistry offices, Dr. John Sarris offers options to help you afford the cost of dental veneers through various affordability options.
How are dental veneers made?
Porcelain veneers are primarily made by hand in a dental lab. Dr. Sarris gathers the necessary data through a dental examination, taking an impression, digital photos and measurements, and sends this all to his dental laboratory.
Because veneers are usually made of porcelain, Dr. Sarris can choose a specific piece of porcelain to match your teeth. The dental lab technician may also add subtle shading variations by hand within the veneer.
While the lab is making your veneers, you will not need any temporary veneers since so little enamel is removed for this procedure. Then the veneers are received in our office and Dr. Sarris bonds them to your teeth, that is a permanent bond and your veneers are now part of your teeth, providing new front surfaces to enhance your smile.
How do I care for my dental veneers? Like your natural teeth, your dental veneers will last longer if you take good care of them. It is important to brush the back side of veneered teeth to prevent bacteria from entering the teeth that way, and to floss between teeth. The porcelain itself is not susceptible to decay.
Regular dental cleanings are also necessary, as tartar cannot be removed by brushing or flossing. Our hygienist can remove it for you with special implements and Dr. Sarris will do a check-up to make sure there are no little problems developing.
