Sedation Dentistry
Serving Fort Lauderdale, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, and Boca Raton, Florida
If you have avoided going to the dentist for years, or even decades, because you are fearful of having dental work done, there have been advances in dentistry that allow dentists to perform procedures while you are sedated; most of the time, patients do not even recall the work that was done to them and wake up feeling refreshed and without any recollection of the experience. If you have memories of the horrible noise of the drill and the unpleasant sterile smell of a dentist’s office, you will be thrilled to learn that sedation dentistry provides a whole new dental experience: one that some of our patients even describe as “pleasant.”
Fort Lauderdale Sedation Dentist, Dr. John Sarris at Family Cosmetic & Reconstructive Dentistry in Palm Beach, Florida has been providing patients a more tolerable dental experience by offering various forms of sedation dentistry. Dr. Sarris has extensive training in all phases of general dentistry and stresses preventative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and performs full mouth reconstruction, which is a combination of several procedures at one time to provide patients a dazzling new smile.
Types of Sedation Dentistry
Dr. Sarris offers oral sedation; I.V (intravenous) sedation is not offered to our patients. Dr. Sarris will sometimes prescribe a pill that has a sedative effect on the patient. The pill is administered prior to the dental work being done.
Nitrous oxide is a form of inhalation conscious sedation that is commonly referred to as “laughing gas.” Nitrous oxide places you in what is called a state of “conscious sedation,” which means you experience a depressed level of consciousness but allows you to independently maintain an airway and respond to physical stimulation and verbal commands from Dr. Sarris. All bodily functions remain normal and you are able to breathe on your own with the use of nitrous oxide. Sometimes, patients will fall asleep and have no recollection of the dental work performed while under sedation. Visit our Types of Sedation Dentistry page to learn more
