Number one on most people’s cosmetic dentistry wish lists is a whiter, brighter smile. Perhaps you have tried at-home teeth whitening and found it less effective than you had hoped. The store-bought products can help to some extent but results are usually uneven and unpredictable.
“Whitening” toothpaste contains abrasive ingredients such as baking soda that will remove tooth enamel as well as some stains. You would be best advised to search the shelves for one that does not say “whitening” on the box. The layer beneath enamel is the yellow dentin layer and with thinning enamel it will start to show through.

The KöR Deep Bleaching™ Procedure
Once you and Fort Lauderdale Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Sarris have decided to go ahead with teeth whitening, the procedure uses two different whitening gels and has three steps:
- An initial office visit where Dr. Sarris uses a hydrogen peroxide gel that will help your teeth absorb the oxygen given off by your at-home tooth-whitening gel.
- A two-week period when you use an at-home kit by wearing custom trays at night. These are very well-fitting trays that seal the gel in against your teeth and seal saliva out (which would dilute the gel). This gel is carbamide peroxide. After these two weeks you will have dramatically whiter teeth.
- A second office visit where Dr. Sarris uses hydrogen peroxide to give your teeth a concluding boost of whitening.
By then you will have a brilliant white smile that not only looks natural but is, in fact, natural – it features your own teeth, not veneers or dental crowns. You can keep it indefinitely with maintenance touch-ups at home. Just wear the trays occasionally at night with the carbamide peroxide gel.
