Dental Bonding

Tooth Bonding Patient in Fort Lauderdale

Tooth bonding is a quick and easy way to correct many dental defects. It uses a putty-like substance called dental bonding which is white and is hardened with a curing light when your restoration is correctly shaped. The term “dental bonding” also refers to the tooth bonding procedure.

Uses for Tooth Bonding
Teeth bonding is a versatile material and is used for minor repairs, such as:

  • Repairing small chips or cracks
  • Filling gaps between teeth
  • Building up teeth that are smaller than their neighbors
  • Covering stains or spots
  • Correcting slight crookedness

Applying Tooth Bonding
Fort Lauderdale Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Sarris applies the bonding material in increments like putty until the correction is complete. This is known as a direct restoration, meaning that Dr. Sarris does it directly on your teeth and there is no lab work needed. In contrast, porcelain veneers are indirect restorations because they are made in a dental lab and then applied to your teeth.

Before he uses the curing light to harden your tooth bonding, Dr. Sarris will give you a mirror so you can see it. He’ll also ask you to close your mouth and tell him if the bonding feels comfortable against the opposing teeth. When you are both satisfied, he will use the curing light and now you have a sturdy, white restoration and improved dental health.

Care and Longevity of Tooth Bonding
Tooth bonding can last for years if it is well cared for. It is less stain resistant than porcelain and may need to be touched up if it becomes discolored. It is best for small areas of repair, rather than entire smiles. If you give it good daily brushing and flossing to remove plaque, your tooth bonding will serve you well.
